For over two decades at our family-owned Japanese restaurant, this was the salad guests couldn't get enough of. While most places use basic iceberg, we found the perfect "flavor-packed" harmony in a crisp blend of Romaine and Spring Mix. Paired with our Chef Kaz Japanese Ginger Dressing, these greens carry enough umami and zest that they don't even need toppings to be the star of the show.
Prep time: 2 minutes
Servings: 1-2
Ingredients
-
The Greens: 2 cups of greens — a 70/30 blend of chopped Romaine lettuce and fresh Spring Mix.
-
The Dressing: 3-4 tbsp Chef Kaz Japanese Ginger Dressing & Marinade.
-
Optional Toppings: Shredded carrots, cucumber slices, or chilled baby shrimp (for the full restaurant experience).
Instructions
-
The Blend: In a chilled bowl, toss together the crisp Romaine and delicate Spring Mix. This combination provides the perfect "crunch" and a variety of leaf textures.
-
Dress & Toss: Shake your bottle of Chef Kaz Japanese Ginger Dressing well. Drizzle over the greens and give them a light toss so every leaf is coated in that zesty ginger flavor.
-
The Extras (Optional): If you're feeling fancy, top with carrots, cucumbers, or our classic baby shrimp—but as our regulars used to say, the greens and dressing are a meal all on their own!
-
Serve: Enjoy immediately as a refreshing appetizer or a light, healthy lunch.
Chef’s Note
"After 20 years behind the sushi bar, I’ve learned that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. The peppery notes in the Spring Mix combined with the sweetness of our Ginger Dressing create a complex flavor profile that doesn't need a dozen ingredients to taste 'expensive'."
